There are larger cranes out there, like the Kockums (or “Tears of Malmo”) crane. Originally from Sweden but now in Korea, it has only ever lifted a few thousand tons, although it’s estimated to be capable of much more. "The Kockums Crane (or Kockumskranen in Swedish) was a 138-metre-tall crane, formerly of the Swedish shipyard Kockums in Malmö. It was built in 1973–1974 and capable of lifting 1500 tonnes. The rail width was 175 metres, the rail length 710 metres. The crane was used to build approximately 75 ships. That was the problem facing the Swedish shipbuilding city of Malmo when the Kockums Crane was dismantled in 2002. This program illustrates the city’s radical solution—a dramatic reinvention of its skyline and its socioeconomic image with the Turning Torso apartment building.
